My first report and it seems like the year is almost over already!
The Defence Force uses the term “OPTEMPO’ or Operational tempo to describe the degree of activity at any one time or period of time. Carlingford-Dundas Lions are just about off the scale at the moment with so much going on.
Let me start by reflecting on the Change-Over on 1st July. I spoke then of the great job done by IPP Peter Adney and I repeat those remarks here in thanking Peter and Laurice for their stewardship of the Club over the past two years. We were also delighted to welcome into our Club Lion Geoff Lee, the State member for Parramatta.
Elsewhere in “The Pride” there is a report on the unveiling of the Carlingford-Dundas Lions Memorial in Upjohn Park. It was gratifying to see so many members present share this event honouring our departed Lions. Our thanks go to Ian Furnass for his work in constructing the Memorial and to Parramatta Council for their support of the project. It is compliment to the standing of our Club in the community that the Lord Mayor, Councillor Lorraine Wearne, officiated at the unveiling.
Camp Lionheart is nearly upon us and the Committee is working feverishly to produce another milestone event. Apart from regular meetings, an enormous amount of work is done at other times, chasing up sponsors, acquiring goods and services for sale and attending presentations to collect grants from Council or Registered Clubs.
The Club was also saddened to here of the passing of Siggy’s mother in Germany. We offer our sincere sympathy to Siggy, Michael and family at this time.
As mentioned previously, we were gladdened by the induction of Geoff Lee – we are saddened by the resignations of Michael and Libby McDermott and Brenda Morrison. I thank all three for their contribution to the Carlingford-Dundas Lions, their efforts in living up to our motto “WE SERVE” and wish them all well for the future.
Must be off – there’s a boat waiting for us in Budapest!
